3 Of The Most Outstanding Watches In The World
After the curtain had fallen on Baselworld 2016, the world’s most important marketplace for the watch and jewelry industries, Best Luxury Guide decided to take a look at the three most expensive horological inventions of all time.
Each one of the timepieces we selected is famous for its intricate detailing and expensive materials used, which greatly influenced the price of each one of those watches. Yet, it is safe to say that we were equally fascinated with the technical innovation and watchmaking prowess of those timepieces.
Louis Moinet Meteoris Watch – $4,600,000
The Swiss watchmakers at Louis Mointet showed the rest of the world the extent of their horological creativity with their Meteoris collection. Each one of the four watches in this collection is a unique objet d’art, as each is made out of other worldly materials: Tourbillon Mars, Tourbillon Rosetta Stone, Tourbillon Asteroid and Tourbillon Moon.
The Tourbillon Moon dial, in the Louis Moinet Tourbillon Moon, actually features a fragment of the hugely rare Dhofar 459 meteorite, which is thousands of years old. A Tourbillon Rosetta Stone timepiece, for instance, features a fragment of another extremely rare meteorite Sahara 99555, which fell to Earth presumably from Mercury and is thought to be an incredible 4.6 billion years old, just one million years younger than the age of the Solar System.
As you can imagine the trend has continued throughout the collection, making Louis Moinet’s Meteoris watchtes some of the most exclusive timepieces in the world.
Hublot Big Bang – $5,000,000
If you were impressed by the previous previous collection on our list, wait till you see one of the Big Bang watches by Hublot. Similarly to Louis Moinet, this powerhouse of watchmaking focuses on the materilas in its collection. Hublot encrusted its $5 Million Dollar Big Bang Tourbillon with 1,282 diamonds, each one of which was individually examined by a team of 17 men and women. Although it took them 14 months to complete the watch, this was done to ensure the consistency of pattern and colour in the overall design. It is said that Beyonce ordered one of those watches for her husband. Do you believe there is a point at which the watch costs too much?
Breguet Grande Complication Marie-Antoinette – $10,000,000
And we finish the list with one of the most expensive watches in the world – Breguet Grande Complication Marie-Antoinette. This isn’t your typical watch, in fact, it’s not even a wrist watch. In 1783, a mysterious admirer of Marie-Antoinette ordered from Breguet a spectacular watch of the highest horological expertise known at the time. This undisputed masterpiece of horology became something of an obsession over the years.
In April 2008, after four long years of research and reconstruction, the new Marie-Antoinette timepiece finally saw the light of day. While the watch is not for sale, Breguet has received several offers of at least $10 million for the self-winding reproduction of the original watch.
For those who are fascinated with excellent timepieces, but can’t afford the watches on our list, there are more affordable, yet equally dazzling men’s watches to take a note of. Yet, if you are one of those fortunate readers for whom the sky’s the limit and money is no object, these exclusive timepieces will be well-suited for your taste.
